Quinn eliminates salaries for lawmakers

Governor Pat Quinn Wednesday used his veto power to eliminate salaries for Illinois legislators. As IPR’S Brian Mackey reports, Quinn says until lawmakers fix the state's pension problem, they shouldn't get paid.

On Illinois' $100-billion unfunded pension liability, Quinn has been setting deadlines for more than a year. Until now, there haven't been any direct consequences for lawmakers when they've blown each of those deadlines. Quinn changed that in a big way.

PHA learns how HUD can help with possible Taft re-development

Officials with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development say they will be supportive as the Peoria Housing Authority decides how to re-develop the Taft Homes site. HUD representatives discussed programs the PHA could use to sell or demolish properties and either re-build or find replacement housing for residents.

Lawmakers adjourn without acting on pension overhaul

Illinois legislators gathered all day Tuesday to deal with a new gun law then promptly adjourned without taking action on the state's pensions. As IPR’S Amanda Vinicky reports that sets the stage for another showdown between the governor and the General Assembly.

Yesterday was the deadline Gov. Pat Quinn had given legislators for getting a pension overhaul to his desk.

Transparency, executive director issues for Focus Forward group

The region’s new economic development effort plans to unveil steps towards meeting its five-year goals at the end of the month. But Focus Forward C.I. continues to deal with calls for more transparency in its meeting process. The policy steering committee met Tuesday without taking any action on a five-year budget or voting to make the group separate from the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. Tri-County board chair Larry Whitaker says that’s because the meeting wasn’t properly noticed:

Peoria County Board to vote on expanding employee health care coverage

Peoria County is preparing to expand its employee health plan coverage to comply with the Affordable Care Act.  New regulations require the county to cover the cost for mammograms, colonoscopies and immunizations as much as 100-percent.
