National accreditation for Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center

The Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center has received national accreditation for its health services.  The National Commission on Correctional Health Care recognized the facility at its meeting last month.  Brian Brown is the Center’s Superintendent.  He says the accreditation measures the detention center’s entire operations:

Main and University intersection changes could take place this year

The Main and University intersection in Peoria could see initial redesign changes by the end of the year. Peoria Public Radio’s Tanya Koonce reports a water-main break last month created an opportunity:

Rauner chooses running mate

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner Tuesday is announcing his running mate. As IPR'S Brian Mackey reports, she's a Wheaton city councilwoman with little experience in statewide politics.

Her name is Evelyn Pacino Sanguinetti. She studied piano performance and went on to become a lawyer, including a stint working for former Republican attorney general Jim Ryan.

Hastert compares government shutdowns

Denny Hastert wasn't the Speaker of the U.S. House during the last government shutdown, but he was an Illinois Congressman in 1995 and '96.  He told IPR’S Amanda Vinicky, this time is different.

Hastert says back then, Republicans were trying to get a handle on spending. He says it worked.
