Peoria's Pere Marquette Marriott opens for business

Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis gets an honoray key to the hotel from Marriott International Area VP Rita Cuddihy

  The historic and renovated Peoria Marriott Pere Marquette hotel opened at 3:00. The hotel staff presses a button at that time, and Peoria’s so-called Grand Lady becomes part of Marriott’s world wide hotel and conference centers.

Peoria residents facing large costs from storm

Some Peoria residents are facing heavy financial costs related to water damage caused by last weekend’s storm.  Dozens of residents called water mitigation and reconstruction companies to deal with the damage. Jack Kellerstrass is Vice President of ServiceMaster of Central Illinois. He says water-damage repairs can get very expensive.

Goodwill Industries getting federal grant

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos today announced Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois is getting a $200,000 grant. The money is from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program.

Goodfield officials break ground on green manufacturing facility

Chip Energy manufacturing facility in Goodfield

The cargo containers you see on ocean vessels and trains are being used to make an industrial manufacturing facility in Goodfield. Chip Energy, state, and village officials broke ground on the building Thursday that will be made up of 60 metal containers once complete.

Slight drop in area unemployment

The area’s unemployment rate dropped slightly from April to May. But the rate is up nearly one percent from last May.  The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports 7.8 percent of people living in the Metropolitan Statistical Area filed unemployment claims in May.

Il Gay rights activists say Supreme Court ruling on DOMA is bittersweet

Expect a raucous time at this weekend's annual Pride Parade in Chicago. Gay right activists will celebrate the death of "DOMA," or the Defense of Marriage Act. Wednesday’s Supreme Court ruling declaring the Act unconstitutional is a major victory for advocates, who had a disappointing spring in Illinois.
