House panel approves same-sex marriage measure
Same-sex marriage moved one step closer to becoming the law of Illinois Tuesday. A House panel voted to advance the measure. Now it has to get through the full House, where backers acknowledge they're still trying to round up votes.Although Democrats have a large majority, not all of them are expected to support it. Representative Luis Arroyo of Chicago voted "yes" in committee. But he says he was only doing that as a favor to the sponsor and his support would likely end there. "I don't think I can vote for this bill (on) the floor of the House, because of my religious beliefs, and because of the churches in my district that I represent and I support." If the measure does get through the House, Governor Pat Quinn says he will sign it into law.
