Road closures not related to flooding
FOR FRIDAY (April 26th)
Beginning this afternoon, Smithville Road will be closed to all traffic at the bridge located about 1.5 miles east of the Smithville Road and Trivoli Road intersection. The closure is necessary for bridge construction. Construction is expected to last until mid-September. A detour route will be in place along adjacent County roads.
The intersection of Alta Lane and Radnor Road in Peoria will become a four-way stop. This change will remain in place indefinitely.
For Monday (April 29th)
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that temporary daytime and nighttime right lane closures on eastbound I-74 between I-474 and I-155 are scheduled to begin Monday, April 29th.
The lane closures will continue for about one month and are necessary for removal and replacement of the outside shoulders. The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 45 mph.
The overall project is the complete reconstruction of I-74 from Pleasant Hill Road to Morton Avenue in Tazewell County, including construction of additional through-lanes on I-74; reconstruction of the I-155 interchange into a new configuration; ramp improvements at the Morton Avenue interchange; removal of eight existing structures on I-74 with replacement of six of those structures; pavement removal and replacement; installation of highway lighting; and, installation of roadway drainage. The project is expected to be completed in 2015.
