On Point joins the afternoon program lineup today at 2:00 p.m.
Peoria Public Radio, central Illinois’ NPR station, begins airing the news and public affairs program On Point, beginning Monday, July 1. On Point is a hybrid of a talk program and a newsmagazine that puts each day's news into context and provides a lively forum for discussion and debate. It will air weekdays from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on 89.9.
The show is hosted by award-winning journalist Tom Ashbrook. He leaves no perspective unchallenged, and digs into the core of a subject, exposing each of its real world implications.
“We began looking for an effective new afternoon program when NPR announced that it would end production of Talk of the Nation,” said Tom Hunt, Peoria Public Radio’s Executive Director.
“The station’s noon magazine program, Here and Now is expanding to two hours, giving us a strong three hour block that will allow flexibility for local segments as well as national reporting,” he added.
Listeners were invited to sample and vote on several program options on the station’s website. The Peoria Public Radio Associate Board also participated in the selection process.
