Additional assistance available for some tornado victims

Some area tornado victims have another option to seek help for mortgage expenses, temporary housing or rent. The Peoria Area Association of Realtors is hosting a Housing Outreach Program Wednesday in Washington for those displaced by the November 17th storms.

People can qualify for up to 15-hundred dollars for mortgage or rental assistance through the Realtors Relief Foundation. Dallas Hancock is the CEO of the association. She says the fund will not duplicate what insurance companies are already providing.

“It really is directed to people who either didn’t have temporary housing costs covered in their insurance or they were renters that didn’t have any insurance or only had renters insurance that covered the cost of their belongings. So we’re really trying to look at some people who may be slipping through the cracks that don’t have the coverage that others might.”

Hancock says the Housing Outreach Program event will also help people find new rentals and assistance in replacing household items. The program is from 4:30 to 7 at Countryside Banquet Center in Washington. It’s open to anyone impacted by the tornadoes in the surrounding area.
