American Cancer Society looking for local participants in new study

The American Cancer Society is calling on Peoria and Bloomington residents to participate in its next cancer prevention study. The goal of the so-called CPS-3 study is to help identify new and emerging cancer risks.

It’s for men and women ages 30 to 65 who have NOT been diagnosed with cancer. Participants will have their lives monitored for up to 30 years to see if any cancer causes can be determined.

Sign-up requires a one-time, in-person visit to read and sign a consent form, complete a survey, have your waist measured and give a blood sample. Participants will also have to do periodic follow-up surveys.

Local residents can enroll in CPS-3 in Peoria at all three major hospitals, Illinois Cancer Care, the Riverplex, and Pekin Hospital. Bloomington residents can register at OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center. The enrollment period is from September 11th through the 26th.

Information and appointments are being taken at www.cps3Illinois.org.
