Birkey's raising money for local food banks

Feb 3, 2014

The Peoria Area Food Bank is getting some fundraising help from an Illinois and Indiana-based farm store.

Birkey’s, a full-line Case IH dealer, kicked off its 60-day Hunger Drive fundraiser Monday. The goal is to raise enough money to provide 600-thousand meals for the hungry. Fundraising efforts will help the Peoria Area Food Bank as well as six other food banks.

Barb Shreves is the Director of the Peoria organization. She says any money donated to the group goes a long way toward feeding those in need.

"We broke all records last year. We distributed 3.6 million pounds of food. We serve eight counties and all of the donations that come in help us to purchase food for our hungry families in the area."

Shreves says the Peoria Area Food Bank serves 52-thousand people a month. The Birkey’s location in Bloomington will hold an open house February 26th from 11 to 1 where customers and community members can learn more about the Peoria food bank and donate money.

Individuals who give 10-dollars or more are entered into a drawing to win a fully restored 1954 Farmall tractor.
