Bustos on the Londan Mills flood damage

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos was in London Mills yesterday to assess flood damage in the area. The community of about 500 people was forced to evacuate about a dozen homes due to rising water levels from the Spoon River. Bustos says the town still has a long way to go in the recovery process, and it starts with recovery efforts by the Federal Emergency Management Agency:

“For those who have Federal Flood Insurance, FEMA will come in. We’ve asked all of them to document as best as possible, save their receipts for what they’re having to buy, keep track of what they’ve lost. When disaster strikes, that is what FEMA is there for,” Bustos says.

Bustos also says residents without federal flood insurance should be aware of community programs in place to help them out. Bustos did not provide a specific timeline for federal support to arrive.
