City County Health Department looking at service shift

The Peoria City/County Health Department will likely change the way it delivers services as a result of new health trends.  Administrator Greg Chance says the department used to provide a large amount of immunizations and pre-natal care:

“Because of the change in the healthcare environment, and because of the establishment of the establishment of the heartland clinic and others, we’re seeing a less demand of some of those services. So then we can dedicate those resources towards a public health emphasis looking at population health improvement…versus individuals.”

Chance says the City/County Health Department could partner with school districts, the park district and other groups to combat hypertension, diabetes and asthma in populations.  Peoria County is also considering replacing the aging Health Department building on Sheridan Road.  Chance says he could support a smaller, more modern facility with better workspace
