Illinois US Senator Dick Durbin says he’s planning on running for a fourth term. From Washington, IPR’s Lauren Chooljian reports.
Senator Durbin has been serving in the US Senate since 1997.
“I like this job. And I’m honored to represent Illinois, and I’m doing some of the most important work of my life,” Durbin says.
Durbin was recently part of the bipartisan group of 8 senators who worked on immigration legislation. He’s also been involved in the gun control debates co-sponsoring a bill on gun trafficking restrictions. Before his time in the Senate, Durbin was a member of the House of Representatives. The Democrat says he’s planning on making a formal announcement about his candidacy eventually, but until then he’s...
“...planning, making every plan to do that, putting together the campaign, raising the money,” Durbin says.
If elected in 2014, the number 2 senate leader would be one of the longest serving members of the Illinois delegation.
