Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced the new head of Illinois’ child welfare agency Tuesday. IPR'S Tony Arnold reports.

Governor Quinn’s candidate has been with the Department of Children and Family Services for just more than a year.

Bobbie Gregg is an attorney who’s had a number of jobs over the years including U.S. attorney, a counselor for the City of Chicago, and more recently, the DuPage County Health Department. She was an administrator at DCFS when Quinn’s previous pick to head the agency abruptly resigned earlier this year.

Arthur Bishop resigned after WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times published stories detailing a previous arrest for stealing from a former employer - a mental health center. He also had a child support case involving a daughter he claimed in court to have not known about.

Bobbie Gregg’s appointment still needs the approval of the state senate.
