Gov. Quinn approves capital construction bill

Jul 22, 2014

Central Illinois communities are getting state funding for shovel ready construction projects. Governor Pat Quinn signed a more than one-billion dollar capital construction bill into law Tuesday.

The money is an extension to a $31 billion six-year capital construction program that some transportation groups say will run out of money this year. The projects will be paid for by selling bonds and paying back the loan with revenue from retired bonds.

More than $13 million will be spent in Tazewell County for the resurfacing of six miles of Interstate 155. $14 million is to resurface Interstate 39 in Marshall County, and five and a half million will help pay to replace Interstate 74 bridges over Henderson Creek in Knox County.
