Heddington Oaks rate hikes under consideration

Apr 24, 2013

Current residents of Bel-Wood Nursing home could see daily private pay room rates increase by $20 if they move to Heddington Oaks.  Peoria Public Radio’s Alex Rusciano reports the County Board will also consider charging more for residents who are not grandfathered in:

Private pay residents at Bel-Wood currently pay $170 a day.  A measure coming to the County Board will increase the rate to $190 at the new nursing facility.  But that’s still nearly $30 less than what brand new private pay residents at Heddington Oaks would be charged. Peoria County Board member Lynn Scott Pearson says it’s important to consider current Bel-Wood residents with future pricing:

“They have really been dedicated to us.  I think the one that I’ve heard that’s been there the least time was four years. So we thought that the least we could do was grandfather them in,” Pearson says.

The full County Board considers the measure next month. The lower private pay rates could increase after a year under the proposal. Pearson says the Board could then consider freezing the rates or have the former Bel-Wood private pay residents move to the higher daily room cost.
