It's time for Illinois hunters and fishermen to renew their sports licenses. Monday marks the expiration date of licenses from last year. Tim Schweizer of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources says there is no price increase for the licenses. But he says DNR is charging more for other things, thanks to a new law intended to stave off state park closures.
“But many of those are fees, for instance, are permits for oil, gas, wells - things that the department does that you might not associate with hunting and fishing,” Schweizer says.
Schweizer says almost all out-of-state licenses will stay the same. But trout fishermen who are not Illinois residents will have to pay an extra 30-dollars. Schweizer says hunting or fishing without a license can result in a 120-dollar fine.
