IL Senate passes tornado disaster funding bill

Apr 9, 2014

A bill allowing state funding to help towns hit by the November 17th tornadoes has passed the State Senate. The measure was introduced by state senator Dave Koehler and co-sponsored by Darin LaHood.

It allows communities in a declared disaster area to apply for assistance to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. That would pay for the cost of debris removal and emergency protective measures following a disaster. The measure would also help Illinois communities impacted by natural disasters going forward.

FEMA denied public reimbursement for Illinois communities hit by the November 17th tornadoes following an appeal earlier this year.
