Illinois medical marijuana sales top $1.2M in January
Medical marijuana sales in Illinois picked up in January as more dispensaries opened around the state. Seven new dispensaries joined the program last month, bringing the total to 28 shops.
Program director Joseph Wright says patients legally purchased more than $1.2-million worth of marijuana serving 2,774 unique patients last month. The average retail price per gram was roughly $14.
Concentrates and edibles became more widely available in January, contributing nearly $132-thousand to total sales.
Marijuana wholesalers pay a 7% tax to the state, and growers paid roughly $66-thousand in taxes for January sales.
