Illinois plans health law enrollment events before deadline

Feb 11, 2015

Illinois officials are planning late-night enrollment events leading up to an important deadline under President Barack Obama's health care law.

The final day for signing up for private health insurance coverage this year is Sunday. The Get Covered Illinois campaign is offering in-person assistance at health centers, hospitals and at least one public library.

Help will be available at some sites until midnight Sunday. Details are available on the Get Covered Illinois website.

Jennifer Koehler of Get Covered Illinois says uninsured Illinois residents should "beat the rush" and enroll now.

It's getting more expensive to go without health insurance. The health care law says people without insurance in 2015 can be fined the greater of 2 percent of income or $325, unless they qualify for an exemption.
