Illinois republicans looking for candidates

Illinois Republicans are still looking for candidates willing to run for some races further down the ballot next year. IPR’s Tony Arnold reports:

Republican Day at the State Fair tends to be a chance for gubernatorial candidates to make their case before the primary. But missing from the stage were Secretary of State and Attorney General hopefuls.

This is as close as one got during a breakfast meeting:

RANDY: We do have - he’s not announced yet - but we do have a candidate who is considering running, I guess, for attorney general. And I’d just like to recognize Paul - Paul, how do you pronounce your last name? SCHIMPF (off mic): Schimpf.RANDY: Shofe.SCHIMPFT (off mic): Schimpf.RANDY: Schimpf. Alright.

Jack Dorgan is the Republican Party Chairman: "We’re looking at all the candidates. And we will have strong candidates and a strong message in each one of those ballot positions."

Candidates can’t start circulating petitions to get on the ballot until September. The Democratic incumbents - Secretary of State Jesse White and Attorney General Lisa Madigan - both won re-election in 2010 with more than 60 percent of the vote.
