Index shows economic dip for region

Aug 25, 2013

The Pekin-Peoria economy slowed further in the 2nd quarter of the year. A measurement of 14 key economic factors shows the slower economic growth.

The Peoria-Pekin Metropolitan Statistical Area Summary Index is 1 percent lower in the 2nd quarter compared to the beginning of the year. It’s also nearly 2.5 percent lower compared to the same time last year.

The Metropolitan Statistical Area the index represents Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, Stark and Marshall Counties. It measures changes in job openings, unemployment claims and retail sales.

The Economic Summary Index is produced by Bradley University's Center for Business and Economic Research. The Peoria Journal Star helps pay for the index research.
