Judge agrees to hear suit over legislative pay
The top two state lawmakers have sued Governor Pat Quinn for suspending their paychecks until they agree to a pension reform plan.
Quinn didn’t have to appear at the court hearing, but showed up anyway.
"It’s an unusual step for two legislators to sue the governor on pay matters and I’m a named defendant and I want to defend the taxpayers of Illinois on this matter."
Quinn didn’t speak at the brief court hearing.
Lawmakers are suing because they say if the governor can stop paychecks until pension reform passes then he could also do it for other issues like gun control or abortion regulations.
