The Annual Martin Luther King Freedom March followed the luncheon.
The march started with sign making at Bradley University. The marchers headed from campus with an escort from the police and fire departments.
The March ended at New Morning Star Missionary Church with an M-L-K Commemorative Service. 17th District Congresswoman Cheri Bustos attended the Peoria Service. It was one of four MLK Services or Ceremonies Bustos attended.
She says finding a common purpose embraces success for all.
“I know the best decisions that I’ve ever made are when we have men and women sitting around the table. When we have black and white and brown sitting around the table, we have age diversity, all kinds of diversity. That’s how we make the best decisions and I think it’s a strength of our country. And I think if we understand that we’re all going to be in a better place.”
Bustos ended the MLK Day of Service and Ceremonies volunteering at the Center for Prevention of Abuse in Peoria.
