New law certifies IL skilled workers to teach students

Jun 21, 2013

Long-time employees of local businesses, like Pekin’s Excel Foundry, can be certified to teach on a part-time basis. The state certification is for part-time teaching and is limited to a specific skill as part of a school district’s curriculum. Governor Pat Quinn yesterday signed the bill that in-part creates the special teacher certification law.

The legislation was sought by a Pekin business and carried by State Representative Mike Unes. This measure has the potential to help businesses like Excel have a specific skill-qualified applicant pool. Governor Quinn says he was pleased to sign the bill that will benefit students, employers and the local economy.

He says providing training for in-demand skills and helping link young people to jobs in their communities is a promising investment.
