The body found in the home of Gary Sandberg is believed to be that of the at-large city councilman. Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says good friends went to Sandberg’s home at 1213 South West Adams Street this afternoon to check on him. They called 911 about 2:15, saying they had found a man deceased.
Ingersoll says there was no i-d on the body. She says an autopsy is planned for Saturday to make a positive identification. Ingersoll says x-rays will be necessary to rule out foul play. City officials have released a statement saying it is Peoria City policy not to speak on such matters until next of kin are contacted.
Sandberg had a daughter and son . He was 65. Sandberg was the longest serving member of the Peoria City Council.
