Peoria County Board OKs freezing members’ pay

Peoria County Board members in even-numbered districts will get a zero percent pay raise over the next four years. The Board also voted to give Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy a bump in a ‘supervisor of safety’ stipend by $10,000 in addition to annual salary hikes.  County Board member Andrew Rand says he supports the stipend bump to recognize McCoy’s service as opposed to the position itself:

“When the County wakes up another morning and there’s a different Sheriff, funding that Supervisor of Safety will probably be one of the items that’s discussed for reconsideration,” Rand says.

The Sheriff will make nearly $20,000 more in four years compared to his current salary. In other business the board voted to transfer operation of its rural bus service to CityLink this summer. The move will allow the service to continue amid funding changes based on the 2012 census.
