Peoria Courtyard Marriott holds ribbon cutting

Officials with the Peoria Courtyard Marriott held a ribbon cutting for the facility Wednesday. It’s been nearly a month since the new downtown hotel held its soft opening as part of the Pere Marriott Complex.  Developer Gary Matthews says he’s currently in negotiations with four businesses to move-into the empty space on Monroe Street. He says the goal will be to tie the Courtyard and new retail into the Civic Center:

“That retailing will. In terms of parking in terms of access to the elevated walkway. There’s a lot of reason for us to identify ourselves that way.”

Matthews says he can’t share which retailers could fill the 15-thousand-square-feet of space adjacent to the Courtyard.  He says the retail connection fits the branding effort of the hotels as the ‘Civic Center Square’ area.  The Courtyard is fully staffed and has 116 rooms.
