The award recognizes a city for innovation, civic engagement, collaboration efforts, and community betterment initiatives. The Young Professionals Organization submitted the application for the effort. Tim Cundiff is the chairman of the group. He says the application highlighted initiatives like the Museum Block and health care:
"What they are looking for are the projects that have been organized to address current challenges in the community, to address the needs of our public, and so we felt that all of the amazing programs and arenas that have been put in process within the last five years, that sets us alone."
The organization heads to Denver to present its application to a national jury June 14th. It’s asking for businesses and individuals to donate money to get the delegation to Denver. Contributions can be made through the Community Foundation of Central Illinois. More information is available at Peoria AAC on Facebook.
