Peoria grapples with fifth homicide in less than a month

Peoria Police are investigating the city’s fifth homicide in less than a month.  County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says the body of 31-year old Carnell Ashford was found Friday in the backyard of 1401 Northeast Perry.  She says Ashford has a Chicago address, but was reportedly living in Peoria for the last year.  Ingersoll says autopsy results are expected Saturday.

Two District 150 schools were also on lockdown after reports of shots fired in the neighborhood near the homicide investigation.  District 150 spokesman Chris Coplan says Woodruff Career and technical Center and Lincoln School were locked down for about 30-minutes over the noon hour.
