Peoria Police Union files grievance against 150 contract

Jan 8, 2014

The Peoria Police Benevolent has filed a grievance against the City for negotiating a contract with Peoria School District 150 without the union’s participation.

District 150 has Peoria Police officers assigned to its three high schools and the Woodruff Career Center. Wednesday was their first day in the schools. The District announced the tentative agreement Tuesday.

The School District says the decision was prompted by the Illinois Law Enforcement Standards Board’s ruling that the district’s Resource Officers do not qualify as law enforcement. District 150 de-certified its police officers last fall.

But Peoria Police Union President Eric Ellis says union officials were not informed of the contract with District 150 until after the fact. He says the grievance addresses that potential violation of the union’s collective bargaining agreement. Ellis says no matter the circumstances, the union officers go where they are ordered and maintain a professional standard.
