The Transportation Security Administration has new advanced screening procedures nationwide.
Peoria International Airport is urging people to allow extra time to make it through the the security screening. The stricter carry-on bag screening process includes placing all electronics larger than a cellphone alone in separate bins. Travelers will also be required to remove their one-quart bag containing all gels, liquids and aerosols. Passengers are advised to arrive at least 2-hours prior to their flight departure, even at PIA.
Gene Olson is Director of Airports. He says often people arrive 90 minutes or less prior to their flight and experience a thorough but speedy TSA experience. Olson says while the new procedures are being implemented people are urged to arrive early.
Here are some tips for moving through the TSA Checkpoint line:
1. Organize carry-on bags so electronics larger than a cell phone are easily accessible for quick removal. Place them in a separate bin during screening.
2. Ensure the clear quart-size bag contains all liquids, gels and aerosols. Each one must be 3.4 ounces (100ml) or less. This will also need to be removed and screened separately.
3. Don’t overstuff the carry-on so X-ray images are clear.
4. Keep track of all your bins and items. Once screening is completed, double-check your bins to make sure nothing is left behind.
TSA note: no changes have been made to what can be brought through the checkpoint. Liquids in the allowed quantities, food, electronics and books continue to be allowed in carry-on bags. The new screening procedures do not apply to passengers screened in a dedicated TSA PreCheck line.
