PIA reports record passenger traffic

Jan 16, 2014

The General Wayne Downing Peoria International Airport saw a two-percent increase in passenger traffic last year compared to 2012. More than 592-thousand people flew in and out of the facility in 2013. It’s the second year in a row for the airport to report record passengers.

Airport Director Gene Olson says the biggest gains were in passengers utilizing service to Atlanta, Georgia. Flights to Florida also performed well. He says continued growth in passenger traffic is beneficial for the airport.

“The biggest benefit is that when the airlines see people using the service that we have, it makes it much more certain that we’re going to retain that service as well as gives us a lot better chance at obtaining new service in the future.”

Olson says the airport also set a monthly record in December for passenger traffic with more than 48-thousand people flying in and out of the facility.
