PRM begins collecting tornado-related stories
The museum wants tornado victims to come by and record audio oral histories of their experiences over the last couple of months. Ann Schmitt, the museum’s vice president of programs, says she plans to share these stories with historical societies in Peoria and Tazewell Counties.
“I hope that they learn generations from now that heeding tornado sirens is probably the best thing that a person can do to keep themselves safe in the event of a tornado emergency, and I hope they also learn that their communities and take pride in the fact that their communities worked together to re-build.”
Schmitt says she wants to showcase these stories in an exhibit later this year to mark the one-year anniversary of the tornados.
The Peoria museum’s oral history event begins Monday afternoon from 4 until 7.
