"I haven’t studied every element of any pending legislation, and that's up to Congress and the President to negotiate. But I believe we should have comprehensive immigration reform," says Rauner.
Rauner was speaking Tuesday at a Republican immigration event in downtown Chicago. He was joined by former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert and Republican state House and Senate leaders, who all voiced their support for reform.
Governor Pat Quinn’s campaign says Rauner is quote “pretending” to endorse immigration reform. They say he has supported anti-immigration candidates and causes in the past.
Rauner says giving money to candidates doesn’t mean he supports every single position they take.
