Rauner talks ideas for Illinois
Rauner didn’t unveil a budget but did address some specific areas he sees where the state could save money, or at least embrace some good government reforms.
"What’s crystal clear, crystal clear, is there is major, major savings to be had. This first list of 10 is a great step in the right direction."
Rauner wants to move lawmakers in 401K retirement plans - and get rid of their pensions. He wants to cut the budgets of the Attorney General, Secretary of State, and the legislature. And he wants legislative leaders to be banned from having jobs outside of the state government. Some of Rauner’s ideas have been talked about before, and haven’t gone anywhere. But Rauner says he’ll get different results.
"I’ve been successful at everything I’ve ever done and I’m a leader."
Quinn’s campaign calls Rauner’s ideas a prank - and says they don’t address Illinois’ structural deficit.
