Regional effort to boost transit access
The Greater Peoria Mass Transit District is leading a local effort to improve access to transportation for those with disabilities. A task force was formed last summer through the Accessible Transportation Coalition Initiative and the Easter Seals to identify transportation needs in the Peoria area, East Peoria and Pekin.
The Peoria area was one of ten communities throughout the US participating in the initiative. CityLink offers service between Peoria and Pekin, and within Pekin. However, no transportation options are currently available within Creve Coeur, Marquette Heights or North Pekin. The committee is conducting a needs assessment of those areas through Tuesday the 9th. The survey is available at http://surveymonkey.com/s/wgwj796. The committee will then evaluate the information and present it to the mayors of those communities. The initiative is also working to identify sidewalks in need of repair that are near high-traffic bus stops.
