The Executive Director of the Heart of Illinois Regional Port District is resigning. Steve Jaeger has led the Authority for more than six years. He says he’s leaving to take a post with the Florida Economic Development Alliance on May 20th. The Port District is working to build an $8 million port facility in Pekin. Jaeger says the district’s biggest accomplishment is the recent permit approval it got from the Army Corps of Engineers for that project:
“We basically made our due diligence and shown through our conceptual design that this project is doable and this project will not endanger any other aspect of the economy or the environment. Finding the construction financing - through a bond issue which we have the authority to do, or some other means - is the challenge that lies ahead,” Jaeger says.
Jaeger’s last day with the Regional Port Authority is May 15th. Authority Chair Dan Silverthorn says there’s no immediate plans to find a new executive director. He says the cash-strapped Authority can save salary costs by instead having board members share the executive director duties.
