Springdale Cemetery hosting special Memorial Day ceremony Sunday

Springdale Cemetery is hosting a special Memorial day ceremony Sunday at 2:30 on Soldiers Hill. 90 new American flags will line the drive welcoming visitors to the historic site. The Central Illinois Living Historians are presenting the colors and children from the Boys and Girls Club of Peoria are leading the Pledge of Allegiance.

General Manager Mark Matuszak says this event is the perfect opportunity for families to see efforts to improve the landscape and monument rehab efforts at Springdale:

“Springdale is just a gorgeous place.  It’s rich in history, and character, people if they have not been here they will be very surprised at what they see today.  Everyday that I come to work I’m surprised at what a place this is,” says Matuszak.

Special Guest Marine Corporal Robert DeGise is speaking on his experience as a veteran of World War two. He recently traveled with the Greater Peoria Honor flight to Washington DC where he played Taps at the Iwo Jima Monument. DeGise will also play an Echo Taps duet during the Memorial Day ceremony.
