Three Peoria Police Offices were transported to the hospital after a two car accident at Illinois and Indiana Avenues. The Police cruiser and SUV K-9 Unit were responding to a call for assistance in the 1000 block of Behrends  Avenue.

Peoria Police Lieutenant Scott Cook says the car was traveling east on Illinois Avenue and the K-9 SUV north on Indiana at the time of the collision. “All three were transported to OSF. At this point none of the injuries appear to be life threatening. One of the officers was up walking around. Two of the officers do have significant injuries but like I said not life threatening. At this point the accident is still under investigation by our traffic unit,” Cook said.

The names of the officers were not released immediately after the accident and it’s still unclear how fast the cars were traveling. Both vehicles sustained what is best described as heavy damage.

The Police Dog remained on the scene until another K-9 officer arrived to take it to the vet for precautionary evaluation.
