The Peoria Fire Department says arson is the cause of two weekend fires. The first happened early Saturday morning in a vacant home and the second occured Sunday at King Food and Tobacco Mart.

Firefighters arrived at the home just after midnight Saturday and discovered heavy flames coming from the right side and upper-level of the home. It took 20 minutes to control the flames. No one was injured. Damage is estimated at $30,000.

Firefighters were called to King Food and Tobacco Mart on South Western Avenue at 11:30 Sunday night. Officials say the convenience store sustained $175,000 in heavy heat, smoke and water damage. No injuries were reported.

Peoria Fire Department Division Chief of Operations Tony Ardis says investigators determined both fires were intentionally set. Both remain under investigation. Ardis adds the two fires do not appear to be related.
