Illinois American Water plans to spend 800-thousand dollars to upgrade 16-hundred feet of water main at the heavily-traveled intersection. That’s after a water main break at that location in September. The water main to be replaced is about 100-years old.
The fix will also allow the city of Peoria to renovate the intersection. The city plans to build pedestrian-friendly bumpouts at the intersection and convert Main to three lanes for several blocks. Raised platform crosswalks with embedded lights are also proposed at seven intersections in the area, including Main and University.
Traffic detours will be set up during construction. Illinois American Water will notify customers if their water service is impacted by the work.
