As a lot of people take to road in Illinois to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends, the Illinois State Police is reminding motorists to drive safely.

ISP Troopers are expected to be positioned every 20 miles on Interstates 55, 57, and 80 today/Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Additionally troopers will be highly visible on the interstates and heavily traveled state routes through Monday, November 27th.

A Freeport, Illinois man was killed early this morning in an pedestrian / vehicle accident involving an Illinois State Police Cruiser on IL Route 116 at Centennial Drive in East Peoria. 44-year-old Jarett J. Simons was hit and killed about 4:19 a.m. according to the Tazewell County Coroner’s Office and the Illinois State Police. 

  CHICAGO (AP) - Aretha Franklin's spokesman says the Queen of Soul is grateful to the state of Illinois for its help when her tour bus broke down on the way to Chicago.  Transmission problems stopped the bus around 1:20 a.m. Monday a few miles from downtown on eastbound Interstate 290. Franklin's assistants couldn't find a car service with an available vehicle. That's when the Illinois State Police stepped in. Three units from ISP, and three from the Illinois Department of Transportation, drove Franklin and her entourage to their hotel. Franklin's reaction?

Road work zones return

  It’s time for drivers to start seeing orange on the roads. Work Zone Awareness is the state campaign by I-DOT, The Illinois State Police and Governor Quinn. The trio of interests joined up at the Morton I-DOT facility to kick-off the campaign and the I-74 &1-55 interchange project.
