Little accomplished in first week of veto session

Illinois legislators were supposed to meet this week for three days as part of the fall veto session. Instead they left Springfield after only two. Little was accomplished during that time.

Gov. Quinn against giving ADM tax incentives to stay in Il

When lawmakers return to Springfield for their fall session later this month, they'll be weighing requests from several international companies that want tax breaks for keeping their headquarters in Illinois. But as IPR'S Brian Mackey reports, Governor Pat Quinn is throwing cold water on that idea.

Most of the tax-credit attention has gone to agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland, which wants up to $24 million to keep its global head office in Illinois. But lawmakers have also heard requests from Zurich Insurance, based in Schaumburg, and OfficeMax, based in Naperville, and there are others.  Gov. Quinn, however, says pensions need to come first.

OfficeMax asks state for tax breaks

OfficeMax is asking the state of Illinois for tax breaks to keep the company's headquarters in-state after the office supply chain's merger with Office Depot is complete.  State Senator Tom Cullerton made his pitch Tuesday during a hearing on the state's pension crisis. He was joined by OfficeMax CEO Ravi Saligram, who says the combined company could be located here or in Florida, where Office Depot is headquartered.
