Graduation Ceremony for Mayor’s Youth Group program

City officials held a graduation ceremony for Peoria youth in a paid internship program this summer.  The Mayor’s Youth Group lasted eight weeks with about 35 high school students participating in Public Works projects.  Vikki Hibberd is with Peoria Public Works.  She says the students also helped combating the flooding along the Illinois River:

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says he wants to devote his second term to helping the city's youth.  In his inaugural address on Monday, Emanuel told the audience of public officials and residents that they need to join together to come up with solutions. 

IL lawmakers asking DOJ to look into youth centers

Illinois legislators are asking the U.S. Department of Justice  to look into Illinois’ troubled residential treatment centers.  A recent series by the Chicago Tribune uncovered abuse at state funded youth residences.  Julie Biehl is a professor in the children and family justice center at Northwestern University.
