Paris police say an unidentified assailant has attacked a police officer near the Notre Dame Cathedral, and the officer then shot and wounded the attacker, who is now hospitalized. A police union official, Cedric Michel, said a man armed with a hammer went after the police officer who was patrolling on the esplanade in front of Notre Dame Cathedral. Michel said the attacker was "neutralized" by police. It is unclear whether the attacker was acting alone. The Following breaking news coverage is courtesy of the BBC. Chicago Police are searching for five or six men or boys suspected of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on Facebook Live.  Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says detectives found the girl and reunited her with her family. She went missing on Sunday.

People from across the U.S. have sent gifts and nearly $158,000 has been raised for a Chicago-area mentally disabled teenager who was shown live on Facebook being beaten.  A spokesman for the youth's family says the outpouring has been "heartwarming." 

Police in Bloomington say two people were stabbed and a third assaulted in attacks in the business district today.
