Durbin to Vote No on Attorney General Nominee

After a procedural vote yesterday, the US Senate is expected to take a final vote to confirm Alabama senator Jeff Sessions as Attorney General later today.  Despite working with Sessions in the Senate for twenty years, Democratic Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois says he will vote “no” on his nomination for Attorney General.

Illinois lawmakers are preparing legislation to ensure that state employees continue receiving paychecks if a judge agrees with the attorney general's argument that their pay should be halted during the budget impasse.

A central Illinois city that restricts speakers at council meetings is seeking advice from the state attorney general.  Normal limits speakers to one appearance every 45 days. City Manager Mark Peterson says the council likely will follow the attorney general's opinion. The restriction might violate the Illinois public meetings law.

Illinois' senior U.S. senator, Dick Durbin, is raising questions about President-elect Donald Trump's pick for attorney general. Durbin met yesterday with nominee and fellow Senator Jeff Sessions.  Durbin, a Democrat, says his first priority was to ask Sessions about violence in Chicago. There were 762 murders reported there last year.

State investigation follows cancelled music festival

The Illinois Attorney General’s Office is investigating Blu Entertainment Group after the Country Life Music Festival was canceled.  Office spokeswoman Annie Thompson says they’ve received multiple consumer complaints following the cancellation.  She says people with tickets to the event should contact their credit card companies to cancel the payments or get a chargeback.
