FBI wiretaps from a 2008 investigation of then-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich recorded current Democratic candidate for governor, billionaire J.B. Pritzker, speaking to Blagojevich about a state job appointment.  The previously unreleased recordings were released Wednesday. An association with the now-imprisoned Blagojevich could be politically damaging.  A Pritzker campaign statement says there is nothing untoward about the conversations.

CHICAGO (AP) - One of the last options former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has of early release from prison rests on a pending decision with the man whose Senate seat Blagojevich was convicted of trying to sell, President Barack Obama.

The Department of Justice confirms the 60-year-old Blagojevich submitted a request to have his 14-year prison sentence for corruption commuted. His convictions include counts for seeking to exchange an appointment to Obama's old Senate seat for campaign cash.

If Obama does not decide on Blagojevich's request by his last day in office, it carries over to President-elect Donald Trump. Blagojevich once appeared on Trump's "Celebrity Apprentice."

Some of the White House materials bound for President Barack Obama's presidential library in Chicago will start making their way from Washington, D.C., to Illinois this week. Beginning Wednesday, commercial trucks will carry documents, artifacts and gifts accumulated over Obama's tenure to a temporary storage facility in Hoffman Estates.

Air Force Lt. Col. Vianesa Vargas says over two dozen troops in Washington, D.C., will take materials now stored at the National Archives and Records Administration and load them onto semitrailers for the 700-mile trip.

President Barack Obama returned to his political beginnings Wed. and delivered an unprecedented hour-long speech to Illinois state lawmakers. He delivered the speech on the 9th anniversary of the day he launched his campaign for president from Springfield.

The point of the speech was to address the extreme political polarization he sees happening in the country - and Illinois. But afterwards, just about the only thing Republicans and Democrats agreed on is that the speech wouldn’t change things.

The fate of Illinois' budget impasse could be influenced by the leader of the free world. At least, that's what Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder is hoping for.

President Barack Obama has chosen his hometown of Chicago to host his future presidential library.
