Eight people interested in District 150 board seat

The Peoria Public School board will consider eight names to fill a vacancy in its third district. They include Lara Aaron, Jon Bateman and Jeff Lickiss. Former District 150 Board member Laura Petelle also re-applied for her seat that she lost to Sue Wolstenholm this spring. Wolstenholm was backed by the ‘Change 150’ political group and shortly resigned. Also running is Change 150 candidate Dan Adler, Melvin McCaw and Phil Romanus. The Board has until mid-August to name a replacement for the one-year term.

Peoria County OKs public defender contract

The Peoria County Board approved a public defender contract for Joel Brown. He starts July 1st.  Brown assumes the post following financial questions surrounding former longtime public defender, Thomas Penn. County officials say the new public defender service is set to save tens-of-thousands-of-dollars a year.  The Board also approved converting a part-time Veterans Assistance position to full-time. Officials say this will help the County process veteran benefit applications. The County has seen 10,000 applications so far this year.

‘Change 150’ backs Adler for Peoria School Board seat

District 150 Board talks likely seat vacancy

The District 150 School Board met in executive session last night to discuss the likely steps needed to fill the upcoming vacancy for the board seat currently held by Laura Petelle. She was defeated by Sue Wolstenholm in the spring election. But Wolstenholm says she plans to resign the post. That gives the board 45 days from that time to fill the seat. School Board president Rick Cloyd says the meeting was to review the policy that spells out how to fill a vacancy:

Sue Wolstenholm unseats D 150 school board incumbent Laura Petelle

District 150 School Board incumbent Laura Petelle was unseated in yesterday’s election.  69-percent of voters voted for Sue Wolstenholm, who was backed by the grassroots ‘Change 150’ group.
