Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says the state should be able to execute those who kill police officers or commit mass shootings. The Governor proposed that and several other measures on Monday in an amendatory veto of gun legislation.

Federal prosecutors in the case of a former physics student charged with the kidnapping and killing of a University of Illinois scholar from China say they don't object to delaying the trial now that the government is seeking the death penalty.

A longtime Democratic state Senator is calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty in Illinois.  Sen. Bill Haine was against Illinois' abolishing capital punishment a few years ago, in 2011.  After all, he's a former Madison County prosecutor.  But Haine says since then, times have changed.
