Paperwork filed to override Governor's veto of concealed carry legislation

With a week to go before a deadline requiring Illinois allow people to carry guns in public, Governor Pat Quinn Tuesday vetoed the legislation that would have authorized concealed carry.  The governor claims he's concerned about public safety, but he's already under fire by critics who say it's a political stunt. As Illinois Public Radio’s Amanda Vinicky reports, the measure's sponsor has already filed paperwork to override Quinn's changes.

More than two weeks left for state to enact concealed carry legislation

Two weeks and one day remain until a federal court deadline for Illinois to enact a law allowing people to carry guns in public. IPR'S Brian Mackey has more.

Lawmakers approved concealed-carry legislation on the last day of their regular session in May, but Gov. Pat Quinn has refused to say what he plans to do with it. Asked about it last week, after his special session on pensions, Quinn was typically non-committal.

Group fights transparency issues within concealed carry legislation

Governor Pat Quinn says he's reviewing the compromise legislators reached on concealed carry.  No matter what action the governor takes, the measure's sponsor says it needs a minor fix, following concerns about transparency. IPR’S Amanda Vinicky explains. 

Illinois residents would be able to carry guns in public under the measure before Governor Quinn. First, they would have to get a concealed carry permit.  The measure creates a state board to review applications.
